Border Run, almost...

From Bird Rock in La Jolla Cal, a shot of at least one loney racer in The Border Run (Newport to San Diego) being sailed this weekend in the calm SoCal spring conditions. Ullman Sails’ Keith Magnussen (K-Mag) aboard the J-125 Timeshaver reported earlier that in addition to a collision at the start for them, the majority of the race was a genoa reach in not nearly enough breeze… As typical conditions of San Diego, the wind is usually a calm 5 to 10 knots, on the good days it will blow 15. But if it isn't great for racing, it is wonderful for the casual sailor. Of course the Border Run  means they sail near the boarder with Mexico, though the finish is well north of that line. The actual boarder is about 12 miles south of the San Diego Bay entrance.
