The America's Cup Worlds Racing has started again. The 45's are out but the crews are not the same as the AC Cup. Those guys are busy learning and training to sail the monster 72's and with the the spring winds starting to kick in, they will need it. The other day the winds in the bay were 30 to 40 knots. It would be crazy to take a huge 72 out with a wing in winds like that, but that is what is coming...
They need to be able to sail in the 'slot' with a good 20 to 25 knots. Of course the course has changed, no longer is it the big loop of the bay, now it will be up and back across the city front. It is kind of a shame that the 72's will not be flying around the bay, instead they will be confined..
It is just to much to close so much of the bay for the race, with shipping traffic, ferry and tour boats, plus just plain sailors on their boats. the Coast Guard wouldn't allow then to close off the shipping lanes and the other companies would loose business or incur more cost in having to divert around the course. So we will be left with a drag race... Of course these boats go so fast they will do the course in a few minutes. I hope Larry is going to do something to make the race more exciting and longer.....
