Trek in the Park

he captain in front of the crowd
Over the weekend I saw a staging of an old Star Trek TV show episode in a local park. This ‘series’ is called “Trek in the Park” and this is the fifth and final year they are producing these shows. This all started out when a brother/sister and friends decided to do one of their favorite episodes and they convinced their mother to sew all the costumes and get their friends to help. The play was done one weekend in a local park and they got such a huge response that the next year the production was a little better and bigger and a lot more people showed up. It grew until this final year, the crowds are in the thousands, original cast and writers come see the performances, they are getting national news coverage and the people who come just can’t get enough. Plus it is all free.

Tribbles
Everything is made by the cast menders and friends, all the actors are friends and build the sets themselves, they just stage these Star Trek episodes and people come. This last year, the fifth of the five year mission, is a production of the episode, “Trouble with Tribbles” and is one of the funnier episodes. Of course there are many many Tribbles and the good guys and the bad. The venue is a amphitheater in a park and the staging is minimal, but they have musicians who play live, a singer who sings the opens song, and lots of Tribbles…
Captain, Doctor and a Tribble

It is not know if they will continue and do more productions, they said this would be the end, but who knows. They have such a huge fallowing that they may do something else, we can only hope.
