Broken control arm forces Luna Rossa out — Kiwis take 2-1 lead; 2nd race scrapped

This may sound like a broken record: A mechanical problem forced Luna Rossa Challenge to withdraw in Monday’s first scheduled race of the Louis Vuitton Cup finals. All that Emirates Team New Zealand had to do was finish the race to take a 2-1 lead in the series. The second race was postponed because of excessive winds.

Wednesday is a practice day, so no races are scheduled. The racing will resume Thursday (maybe) with races scheduled at 1:10 and roughly 2:10 p.m.

This time Luna Rossa was victimized by a broken control arm, which controls the wing, as the boat rounded the second (leeward) mark.
