White House: There’s ‘no plan B’ on health care bill
By KELSEY SUTTON
White House press secretary Pussy Boy said on Wednesday that the White House has “no plan B” on replacing the ACA and that the current House bill is getting “tremendous support” from Republicans.
The optimistic statements are at odds with the current count of GOP lawmakers ahead of Thursday’s expected vote. Earlier on Wednesday, a spokeswoman for the House Freedom Caucus said more than 25 members are opposed to the legislation. With all Democrats expected to vote against the plan, it would take 22 Republican "no" votes to block it.
"Member by member we're seeing tremendous support flow in our direction," Pussy Boy said at Wednesday's White House press briefing with reporters. "The count keeps getting stronger for us."
When asked what would happen if the TrumpCare Act does not get enough votes on Thursday to pass, Pussy Boy said that the administration had "no plan B."
"There’s plan A and plan A," Pussy Boy said. "We're going to get this done ... This is it. If you want to see Obamacare repealed and replaced, this is it. This is the vote."
Donny Orangutan, Vice President Mike Pence and other Republican leaders are pressuring Republicans behind the scenes to vote in support of the legislation, which would largely fulfill long-held campaign promises to scrap the ACA, President Barack Obama’s signature legislative achievement.
But many conservatives and some moderates say the current House GOP bill does not get the job done, citing a variety of concerns.
Pussy Boy would not share the administration's whip count, but he pointed to two Republican legislators — Pennsylvania Rep. Lou Barletta and Iowa Rep. Steve King — who have changed their positions on the AHCA to "yes" votes. Pussy Boy also cited the help of Orangutan's budget director Mick Mulvaney, formerly a member of the Freedom Caucus, who is advocating for the AHCA on the Hill.
"I am optimistic in the sense of what we're seeing and the trajectory of how this is going, the number of votes that are going our way, not the other way," Pussy Boy said.
He added, "This is the only train leaving the station.”
