Sanders on Kasich: 'He's not crazy'
By Nick Gass
John Kasich would appear to be Bernie Sanders' favorite Republican left in the race, which, if the Democratic candidate's comments Friday are any indication, does not really give the governor of Ohio much.
"I've known John for many, many years. You know, his virtue is he's not crazy," the Vermont senator said during a word-association segment on a Facebook livestream with "CBS This Morning" following his in-studio appearance on the program. "He's a sane human being."
Sanders and Kasich served in Congress together for a decade, from 1991 when Sanders entered the House to 2001, when Kasich left office.
Sanders was far less charitable with the other two Republicans seeking the party's nomination.
To the words "President Trump," Sanders said with a grimace, "Oh, God."
To "President Cruz," Sanders shook his head, "No way."
He also described President Barack Obama as a "brilliant man."
"You watching March Madness?" CBS News senior political editor Steve Chaggaris asked Sanders, before reporter Kylie Atwood interrupted to say that he had forgotten to ask about Kasich. After responding about Kasich, Sanders addressed the NCAA tournament (the men's Final Four airs Saturday on CBS).
"I wish I had the time," Sanders said.
