Kock brothers won't go to Republican National Convention
By Nick Gass
Add the Kock brothers' massive political network to the growing list of those who say they will not be attending the Republican National Convention in Cleveland this July.
“Why go?” Charles Kock told ABC News in an article published Monday, referring to the brothers' umbrella political organization, Freedom Partners. “We're not interested in politics. We’re interested in moving us towards a culture and policies that will enable people to improve their lives.”
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has said that he will also skip the event, along with the party's 2008 nominee, Arizona Sen. John McCain, who is facing a tough re-election race.
Despite the Kock brothers' donation of hundreds of millions of dollars to Republican candidates and causes over the past decade, Charles Kock remarked that if Democrats "will do a better job, we would support them."
"But we're not going to get in any campaign where we believe that we can’t make a difference," he said. In the same interview, he told ABC's Jonathan Karl that "it's possible" that another Clinton in the White House would be better than a Republican president.
Kock also said that House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) is "better on the issues" than the remaining Republican candidates but that supporting him as a "white knight" nominee would do more harm than help their cause.
“I don’t see how he could win,” Kock said. “If he did, I mean, that would create the impression this whole thing is rigged, which — that's the opposite of the direction we want to go.”
