Sanders: 'We are going to win New York'
By Nick Gass
A little more than two weeks ahead of the primary in his home state of New York, Bernie Sanders said Friday that his campaign would win the state, which is also the adopted home of Hillary Clinton.
“We are going to win New York," the Vermont senator told "CBS This Morning" in a segment teasing his longer sit-down interview with the hosts and his wife, Jane Sanders.
Sanders noted the 18,000 people who attended his rally in the South Bronx on Thursday evening, calling it a "good start."
"We’re going to do rallies all over the state, and I think we have a good shot at this," he said.
Later in the interview segment, Sanders expressed confidence in his campaign's momentum, referring to victories in six of the last seven caucus states. Clinton has fared better in primary states, though Sanders was quick to point out that "a lot of the earlier states that were contested were in the Deep South, and that is, as you know, the most conservative part of America."
"We did not do well. We’re now moving elsewhere, we’re moving to the West, we’re moving to New York. We think we have a real shot to win," he reiterated.
A Quinnipiac University poll of likely Democratic voters released Thursday showed Clinton with a 12-point lead over Sanders, 54 percent to 42 percent.
