O'Reilly warns Trump: Prepare for the media 'onslaught'

Bill O'Reilly issued a warning to Donald Trump and his supporters on Thursday night, musing that the likely Republican nominee "will not, will not get a fair shake from the press" in a general election against Hillary Clinton.

And it's not because of his policies. "It's him, it's who he is," the Fox News host said on "The O'Reilly Factor," calling Trump "a wealthy man who’s not politically correct, who has made an enormous amount of money by selling himself in high-profile ways."

O'Reilly, while noting that Trump has hinted at mellowing his rhetoric toward the media, said the press would pose nonetheless a significant obstacle until he gets into the White House.

“Make no mistake, Trump knows the media will support Hillary Clinton and will denigrate him at every turn, sometimes savagely," he commented, pointing to the New York Daily News as a "rank tabloid" that "will do just about anything, including denigrating those who vote for Trump."

As O'Reilly spoke, the show flashed the Daily News' Feb. 10 with the headline "DAWN OF THE BRAIN DEAD," highlighting Trump's bounceback from his loss in the Iowa caucuses with a resounding victory in the New Hampshire primary.

"Philadelphia Daily News, another down-market tabloid — same kind of situation," O'Reilly said, as an image of the paper's December front page comparing Trump to Adolf Hitler was shown on screen. "There are no limits for this people."

O'Reilly told his viewers that Trump will not receive fair treatment in a general election against Clinton, remarking that "[a]s the campaign against Hillary Clinton unfolds, things will become brutal and the press will try to rattle Mr. Trump."

"They see him as personally unworthy, beneath them, and destructive to their ideology," O'Reilly said. "Mr. Trump needs to begin preparing himself for the onslaught.”
