Howard Dean to Trump: What Howard Dean moment?
By Nick Gass
Still licking his wounds from Iowa on Tuesday afternoon, Donald Trump fired off a tweet blasting Ted Cruz's "far too long, rambling, overly flamboyant" victory speech as the Texas senator's "Howard Dean moment."
On Wednesday, the former Vermont governor and 2004 Democratic candidate responded.
"Well, I mean the popular meme is that the scream speech destroyed the campaign, which turned out not to be true," Dean said, appearing as a panelist on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."
The thing that "destroyed the campaign," he averred, was that "I came in third when I was supposed to come in first."
"So Donald's not only a showman, but he doesn't know anything about history," he concluded.
Dean's speech (and infamous scream) to supporters indeed came after a third-place finish in Iowa, though he mentioned that Marco Rubio, 2016's third-place finisher on the Republican side, was actually well positioned after his strong performance.
