Mike Lindell’s defeat is also Trump’s

The former MyPillow CEO’s defeat in Minnesota’s GOP gubernatorial contest is the third loss by a Trump endorsee in the last two weeks.

Donald Trump just suffered one of his biggest endorsement losses of the cycle.

Former MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell — a close ally of the president who was at the forefront of his 2020 election denialism — fell to Republican state House Speaker Lisa Demuth in Minnesota’s gubernatorial primary on Tuesday.

Lindell’s loss is the third for Trump endorsees in the last two weeks, following GOP Rep. Andy Ogles’ defeat last Thursday and his pick in a battleground Michigan House race falling to a candidate who had dropped out.

Like other Trump-backed candidates who lost in this year’s primaries, Lindell was massively outspent in his bid. But his close proximity to the president, his name ID among MAGA loyalists and the limited polling available still painted him as the front-runner.

Trump’s endorsement power has particularly lagged in governor’s races this cycle. GOP Rep. Randy Feenstra fell to Zach Lahn in Iowa, Lt. Gov. Burt Jones lost to billionaire Rick Jackson in Georgia, and Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette lost in South Carolina (though Trump offered a late dual-endorsement to Attorney General Alan Wilson).
