Vessel sinks off Yemen's coast after attack, UK maritime agency says

A vessel in the Red Sea’s Bab al-Mandeb Strait has sunk after being attacked by an uncrewed surface vessel, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) center.
The incident, which was first reported on Tuesday, took place 9 nautical miles (around 10.4 miles) off the coast of Yemen’s city of Al Mukha, and sparked a fire onboard the ship, UKMTO said.
“The crew have been rescued by local authorities and are safe and well,” the maritime agency posted on X Wednesday. “The vessel has been reported as sunk.”
UKMTO did not name the ship or state who was responsible for the attack, but the Iran-backed Houthis have repeatedly threatened to disrupt shipping through the strait, a key chokepoint at the southern end of the Red Sea.
Indian authorities said Tuesday that an Indian-flagged vessel had been struck and sunk by a “projectile” off the coast of Yemen, with all 14 seafarers safely brought to Al Mukha port.
Meanwhile, Yemen’s transportation ministry accused the Houthis of carrying out an attack on a vessel using an explosive-laden boat, according to Reuters.
