Trump hasn’t ‘made a determination’ on Jeanine Pirro’s fate

The president has repeatedly chastised the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia after she said vandals weren’t responsible for damage to the Reflecting Pool.

President Donald Trump said late Tuesday night that he hasn’t made a decision on whether to fire Washington U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro, after she said shoddy craftsmanship — and not vandals — was to blame for damage to the Reflecting Pool.

“I haven’t made a determination,” Trump told reporters when asked whether he was considering removing her, before boarding Air Force One in Los Angeles.

The president reportedly met with Pirro, a longtime ally and former Fox News host, on Monday, after chastising her office’s decision to drop a vandalism charge against former Olympic canoeist David Hearn.

“Look for yourselves at the VANDALISM that took place at The Reflecting Pool,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post Saturday. “The material is being cut with a knife or a box cutter, for all to see!”

Government prosecutors, in a filing moving to drop those charges last week, said evidence of issues with the installment of the reflecting pool’s blue liner — which began floating in the water shortly after it reopened — made proving vandalism difficult.

Trump, and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, have insisted that vandals cut up the lining of the pool shortly after it reopened ahead of the Fourth of July celebration in Washington.

Trump wrote in a Truth Social post Saturday that “I disagree 100% with Jeanine Pirro,” and on Monday told reporters he thought she “choked” under pressure.

However, Trump did say Monday that he wasn’t “one hundred percent thrilled with the contractor.” Pirro’s filing noted that a July inspection of the drained pool showed damage throughout the entirety of the pool, which was attributed to overspraying of liner material.
