Any measure

Iran backs “any measure” taken by Palestinian leaders in Gaza talks, president says

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian vowed to support “any measure” taken by Palestinian leaders in a call with Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya, amid talks toward a lasting peace deal in Gaza, Iranian state media said.

During a phone call with al-Hayya, head of Hamas’s political bureau, Pezeshkian praised the official’s “role and leadership in coordinating the Palestinian factions,” Iranian state broadcaster IRIB reported Wednesday.

Iran would support “any measure, initiative or decision that the Palestinian leadership adopts during the course of the negotiations,” IRIB cited Pezeshkian as saying.

Last week, US President Donald Trump announced what he described as a historic agreement to secure the disarmament of Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza, months after the president first announced a US-brokered ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel.

Hamas said it would only go through with the deal if Israel halts strikes in Gaza and pulls troops back to the “yellow line,” as defined by the October ceasefire agreement.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday commented on Trump’s announcement for the first time, saying, “We are examining it. They sent us a draft. We have not agreed to anything.”
