Anti-Trump protesters attack supporters in San Jose
By Nick Gass
Protesters attacked Trump supporters on the streets of San Jose, California, after the presumptive Republican nominee's Thursday-night rally.
A woman supporting Trump was hit with an egg and other food by protesters, at least one of whom was seen holding up a Mexican flag.
In another tweet from a CNN reporter on the scene, protesters shouted "F--- Donald Trump!" as the woman walked back inside the Marriott.
Other videos shot from the scene showed protesters physically attacking Trump supporters as they left the rally:
The Associated Press reported that four people were taken into custody, although the San Jose Police Department did not release any arrest figures. A video tweeted from a POLITICO photographer showed fighting continuing in the streets after the event. "Bernie! Bernie! Bernie!" several shouted.
San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo, who is a Democrat supporting Hillary Clinton, told the AP that "[a]t some point Donald Trump needs to take responsibility for the irresponsible behavior of his campaign," blaming the Republican's presence for inciting the violence.
Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta condemned the violence, tweeting, "Violence against supporters of any candidate has no place in this election."
