Under investigation

Christie: Trump hasn't been told he's under investigation

By VICTORIA GUIDA

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said on Sunday that President Donald Trump hasn't been informed he's under investigation in connection with special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russia’s meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

“I would say the important thing about today for the American people to know is the president is not under investigation,” Christie said on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “No one has told him that he is. He's been cooperating fully with the special counsel's office.”

Christie made the rounds on Sunday morning talk shows, also appearing on ABC’s “This Week” and CNN’s “State of the Union.” And he echoed other Republicans in criticizing leaks leading to weekend reports that grand jury charges have been filed in Mueller’s investigation.

Christie didn't call for Mueller to step down, but he urged him to be vigilant to avoid any conflicts of interest.

“He has to be very, very careful about making sure that the public believes he has no conflicts and that his integrity is unquestioned,” Christie said on CNN.

Meanwhile, the Republican governor said on ABC that anyone charged in Mueller’s investigation shouldn’t count on a pardon from Trump.

“That’s a very important power to use,” Christie said. “And I haven't heard the president say anything like that, and I think we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves. … It’s a big step.”
