Kaine: Trump is 'idiota' on immigration
By Nick Gass
When it comes to Donald Trump's immigration shuffle this week, count Tim Kaine as someone who is not stirred.
The Virginia senator, who has frequently showed off his command of Spanish on the campaign trail for Hillary Clinton, rolled it out again Thursday night in an appearance on CBS' "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert." Asked about the Republican nominee's comments earlier this week about considering a "softening" of his stance on immigration, Kaine did not mince words in English or Spanish.
"Um, I don't buy it because," Kaine said in English before switching to Spanish, "because he's always fighting against the Latino community with words of ill will and the actions of an idiot."
Colbert responded, "What is—I don't actually, I don't speak Spanish. What is the Spanish word for 'pander'?"
"I don't think that word exists in the Spanish language," Kaine said. "It's unique to the American political tradition."
