Promotes Trump’s ‘fraud’

Ann Coulter promotes Trump’s ‘fraud’ narrative

‘Any close election will be stolen by the Democrats,’ she says.

If Donald Trump loses in a close election, Ann Coulter says fraud will be to blame.

In an interview with POLITICO, the commentator on the far right of the conservative spectrum fed a narrative popular among Trump’s supporters that the only way Hillary Clinton can win is if Democrats tamper with the results or vote multiple times.

“Any close election will be stolen by the Democrats,” said Coulter, on a tour to promote her new book, “In Trump We Trust.”

The incidence of voter fraud in U.S. elections is low, according to nonpartisan experts, including the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University Law School, which characterizes fraud as “very rare” and voter impersonation as “nearly non-existent.”

Coulter charges that fraud appears low only because it is not being prosecuted. “It’s like saying there are no lynchings because in the old South no one prosecuted it.”

Coulter predicted a Trump victory in November despite the GOP lagging in the polls with roughly 70 days to go. “I think the polls will change,” she said.

She said Trump’s campaign should send door-knockers to the homes of Hispanic, African-American and ex-Bernie Sanders voters and offer a blind positions test, arguing that more Americans would agree with Trump’s positions on immigration and trade if they didn’t know those positions belonged to the Republican candidate.

Coulter said Trump could win more African-American votes than any Republican since Richard Nixon. (Nixon won 32 percent of the nonwhite vote in 1960.)

"What is holding people back is that he's being smeared from every media outlet. People are so hysterical and that sort of pressure can work on people,” she said. “People can be bullied."
