DCCC outraises NRCC in May

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee raised $8.9 million in May, posting another strong fundraising haul in the year before the 2020 election.
It's nearly double the National Republican Congressional Committee's $4.8 million raised in May, according to its filing with the Federal Election Commission on Thursday.
The DCCC has steadily outraised its GOP counterpart, the National Republican Campaign Committee, though the NRCC has more money in the bank. The DCCC has $17.1 million in cash on hand as of May 31, compared to the NRCC's $20.5 million on hand.
Out of the $8.8 million raised by DCCC in May — which is slightly less than the $9.3 million the committee raised in May of 2017 — $4.5 million came from small dollar contributions with an average donation of $17, according to the DCCC.
“We know that a Democratically controlled House is the only firewall against the recklessness of President Trump and Washington Republicans,” DCCC Chairwoman Cheri Bustos (D-Ill.) said in a statement first provided to POLITICO. “And from the incredible support of folks at the grassroots, it’s clear people across the country share our understanding that we can’t waste a moment defending and expanding the most diverse Majority in American history.
Democrats say they are focused on protecting 44 "frontline" seats in 2020, and 13 of their most vulnerable members are in districts President Donald Trump won by more than 6 points in 2016. But Bustos said the strong fundraising has allowed DCCC to go on the offense and expand the map to long-held Republican seats in Texas.
Republicans would need to win 18 seats next year to take back the majority.
