Megan Rapinoe: I'm not going to the fucking White House

The U.S. women's national soccer team member made the comments in an interview with Eight by Eight

U.S. women's national soccer team star Megan Rapinoe is far from interested in taking part in a ceremonial trip to the White House, if the United States wins the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup, according to comments she made to soccer magazine Eight by Eight.

"I'm not going to the fucking White House," she said after being asked if she's excited about the idea of going to the White House, which was once a custom of professional and national sports teams to celebrate a championship.

But since President Donald Trump took office in 2017, visiting the White House has become a topic of controversy for many sports teams, perhaps most prominently with the Golden State Warriors after they won the NBA title in 2017. And instead of going to the White House after they won the title in 2018, the Warriors met with former President Barack Obama when they went to Washington, D.C.

After delivering her feelings about the visit with an expletive, she doubled down, saying again that she's not going to the White House, but then offering a slightly different take.

"We're not going to be invited," Rapinoe, who is from Redding, Calif., told the reporter, who seemed incredulous at the notion that the team wouldn't be invited to the White House. "I doubt it," she added.

Rapinoe was scolded by Trump on Tuesday after it was noticed that she's decided to remain silent while the U.S. national anthem is played at 2019 World Cup matches.

She's hardly the first U.S. athlete who has declined a visit to the White House before even receiving one. Danny Green, the Toronto Raptors shooting guard who is from New York, said a visit to the White House now that the Raptors are NBA champs is a "hard pass."

Earlier this month, Rapinoe told Yahoo Sports she is "a walking protest when it comes to the Trump administration," because of "everything I stand for." In 2016, she was also one of the first athletes outside of football to publicly support Colin Kaepernick's protests of police violence against people of color.

The U.S. women's national soccer team will play France in the quarterfinals of the knockout stage of the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup Friday.
