Clinton laments how Trump 'trash talked' generals

Hillary Clinton slammed Donald Trump for trash talking American generals during Wednesday night’s commander in chief forum on NBC.

“Let me be clear. Last night was yet another test, and Donald Trump failed yet again,” Clinton said at a press conference Thursday morning. “We saw more evidence that he is temperamentally unfit and unqualified to be commander in chief. He trash talked American generals, saying they'd been, quote, 'reduced to rubble.' He suggested he would fire them, and replace them with his hand-picked generals.”

In response to a question about how he would combat the Islamic State if elected president, Trump said that under President Barack Obama, “the generals have been reduced to rubble.” Retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, one of Trump’s closest military allies, said the Manhattan billionaire was “absolutely right” in making that comment, but Clinton said the remark constituted an insult to the military.

“He attacked dozens of former flag officers by saying that, quote, ‘we've been losing for a long time,’” Clinton said. “That's how he talks about distinguished men and women who have spent their lives serving our country, sacrificing for us. That's how he would act as commander in chief.”

The former secretary of state also attacked Trump for once again speaking favorably of Russian President Vladimir Putin, which she said was an ominous sign for how he might act as president.

“Bizarrely, once again, he praised Russia's strongman, Vladimir Putin, even taking the astonishing step of suggesting that he prefers the Russian president to our American president,” she said. “Now, that is not just unpatriotic and insulting for the people of our country as well as to our commander in chief, it is scary. Because it suggests he will let Putin do whatever Putin wants to do. And then make excuses for him.”
