OK. I just had to post this. I saw it on Surfrider Foundation's site today. It is of a surfer who was late for a surfing competition and decided to jump off the cliff so he wouldn't have to paddle out as long. It is very common for surfers to use geography to help get out past the impact zone (were the wave breaks). I have done this myself but the height on this jump is something.
The location is at a famous surf spot in Santa Cruz California called Steamer's Lane. Surfers usually climb down the cliff and jump in from about 10 feet, this leap was over 30 feet. He did time it right and landed behind the white water of the crashing wave, which is where you want to land. The wave reduces the height you fall and the wave action pulls you out so it really helps to get out.
BUT... This was a wild jump and everyone is just scratching their heads..
