The fermentation is going strong |
So if you saw my post on the beer brewing, I am adding a couple of update pictures so you can see how the fermentation is going. Yes that is beer and that is what it looks like when fermenting, which is the process that converts the sugars into alcohol. And yes this is what you will drink when you order a beer. It looks terrible and scary, but it is a natural process that is used in many different products. In this process we just get to see it in action. Bread uses yeast too and it does a similar thing but of course it is in the flour, since the beer is liquid we see the yeast in action.
The fermentation will go on for a few more days, then it will stop once the sugars are used up and the alcohol level stops the yeast. Then the beer will sit and settle and clarify. Once it is nice and clear, I will bottle it and the beer will sit for about two weeks to let the carbonation take place. Basically I will add a little more sugar to get the beer to start to ferment a little in the bottles, the CO2 that is produced will be trapped in the bottles and make the beer bubble in that standard way.
