Nothing like a little hyperbole, but thanks to the limiting, incredibly
artificial wind limits put in place (after Artemis badly fucked up), today’s AC
racing has been postponed until tomorrow. And if it blows the same tomorrow –
this is “frisco, afterall – and the day after that, and the day after that, and
the day after that, well then what? Raise the wind limits to where they should
be? Or just keep postponing day after day until the audience goes into a coma,
the tired old men who are running this into the ground die off of old age, and
then cancel the entire event, declare the Kiwis the winners, and let the
grownups run the event again?
Either way, it is a ridiculous situation that once again the AC has put
itself in. Every time this fiasco gains a little momentum, it resorts back to
it’s default position: We Suck, and Couldn’t Manage A Soap Box Derby, Let Alone
A Regatta Of This Magnitude If We Had To.
Yes, we’re waiting for the complain e-mails saying how “going negative” isn’t
helping the sport, blah blah blah, but lets call a spade a spade: Despite some
fairly compelling moments of racing, this AC is a debacle.
