Trailing in battleground states

Poll: Trump trailing in battleground states 100 days out from the election

Trump trails Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden by several points in Florida, Michigan and Arizona — key states to win the 2020 election.

President Donald Trump continues to trail presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden in battleground states he won in 2016, according to a new poll.

With just 100 days until Election Day, Trump is behind in Florida, Arizona and Michigan, according to a CNN-SSRS poll released Sunday.

Trump trails Biden by 51 percent to 46 percent in Florida; by 49 percent to 45 percent in Arizona; and by 52 percent to 40 percent in Michigan.

The poll of around 1,000 registered voters in each state was conducted from July 18-24, during a period when Trump sought to reset his campaign as a result of plunging poll numbers amid his handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

Overall approval of the president’s handling of the coronavirus is down in those states, too — with 60 percent disapproving of the president’s strategy in combating the virus in Arizona, 59 percent in Michigan and 57 percent in Florida.

The poll's margin of error was 3.8 percent.

An NBC News/Marist poll also released Sunday found Biden up 5 points in Arizona — with the Democrat leading Trump, 50 percent to 45 percent.

The poll, which surveyed 1,020 registered voters in the state from July 14-22 with a margin of error of 3.7 points, found that Biden had support from Latinos, women, voters with college degrees, those who are under 45 as well as those who live in cities and suburbs.

White evangelicals, men, those 45 or older and those who live in small towns or more rural areas, favored Trump.

The poll also indicated Trump is the favored candidate on economic issues, while Biden would be the better candidate at handling race relations and the coronavirus pandemic.
