What? Apple is safe because it doesn't get bugs???

FaceTime security flaw lets people listen in on iPhone users

By Filipa Ioannou

An alarming security flaw with the FaceTime feature on Apple iPhones allows users to listen in on the person being called before the person answers the call, Apple confirmed to tech news site The Verge on Monday.

The bug functions in this way: One user places a FaceTime video call on the iPhone, then swipes up and adds his or her own number to the call. The app then begins sending audio of the person being called, even though the person has not yet answered the phone.

Even more distressingly, it appears that if the recipient of the call presses the power button, the caller can then see video from the phone of the person being called, even though, again, the person has not accepted the call. The person being called must be running an operating system that supports Group FaceTime for the bug to work.

An Apple spokesperson told The Verge that Apple is aware of the issue and will fix it with a software update later this week.

SFGATE was able to replicate the bug on a call between iPhones on Monday afternoon.

Users may want to deactivate FaceTime on their devices by turning it off under "Settings" until the issue is resolved.
