Sarah Sanders swipes at conservatives accusing Trump of caving on the wall

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Monday fired back at conservatives who criticized President Donald Trump for ending the government shutdown without any money for his border wall.

“Negotiations are still ongoing,” Sanders said. “And I would argue that conservatives that actually have influence have supported the president throughout this process.”

Minutes after the president announced a deal Friday to reopen the government for three weeks with no guarantee of funds for a wall, conservative critics took to Twitter, accusing Trump of caving to Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Conservative commentator Ann Coulter was especially sharp, writing, "Good news for George Herbert Walker Bush: As of today, he is no longer the biggest wimp ever to serve as President of the United States."

In response to a question about those who say Trump conceded to Democrats, Sanders said the more influential conservatives stand with the president and believe in border security.

“Again, this is a simple fix,” she said. “It’s easy for Democrats to sit down and come to an agreement and work with us to get border security.”
