Probability of forming a cyclone with tropical features

For an unusual meteorological phenomenon that may occur in the South Ionion on Friday, the National Observatory is interested in focusing on the creation of a barometric low which is likely to present tropical features. "Such cyclones are seldom formed in the Mediterranean," meteorologist Kostas Lagouvardos reports in Ef.Syn.

Predictive data focus on the absence of fronts, the windy winds of 12 Beaufort, the rapid rainfall and the formation of an "eye".

As he told "Ef.Syn" and journalist Michael Angelos Konstantopoulos , meteorologist Kostas Lagouvard, there is a chance to form a Mediterranean cyclone with tropical features called Medicane, which rarely appears in the Mediterranean.

"If predictions are verified they will be stronger than the last five years. It will initially be formed at sea from the land. But we have no clear predictions about how to move due to the strong winds and rains. There is the possibility of moving eastwards and approaching areas of Western Southern Greece. However, if there is a reaction time, "says Mr. Lagouvrados.

"Medicane's predictability is small, especially with regard to the track that will follow the coming M / S, but it seems to be weakening significantly by approaching mainland Greece," the National Observatory of Athens predicts.

Stormy winds will continue to blow on Thursday (27/09), creating problems in coastal shipping.

The rainfall is expected to have a more generalized character in the eastern and southern continents (Thessaly, Sterea, Pellos) and southern island segments (Cyclades - Crete).

The temperature in the northern continent will range from 5 to 23 degrees, with the exception of West Macedonia ranging from 2 to 16 degrees, central and south from 10 to 22, the Ionian and the North Aegean islands from 16 to 24, islands of the rest of the Aegean from 17 to 28, and in Crete from 19 to 26.

The winds at Aegean will blow from northeast addresses 7 to 9 and local 10 beauforts, with a 1 to 2 beaufort weakening from Thursday afternoon.

The exception is the southeastern Aegean, where the winds will blow from changing directions from 3 to 5 and local 6 beauforts, and from late afternoon from east and south east directions of the same intensity.

In the Ionian the winds will blow from eastern and northeastern addresses 5 to 7 and local 8 beauforts, while in the evening the local beauforts will arrive locally.

In Atticarain clouds are expected at times. The winds will blow from northern directions 6 to 8 and locally in the east to 9 beauforts, but from afternoon they will weaken by 1 to 2 beaufort.

The temperature in the center of Athens will range from 16 to 19 degrees.

On Thessalonikiexpected sunshine, but from late afternoon clouds will develop. The winds will blow from north to east directions 2 to 4 and local 5 beauforts.

The temperature in the city center will range from 13 to 22 degrees.
