They're ushered out...

At RNC winter meeting, Trump hits media as they're ushered out

By REBECCA MORIN

Media was escorted out of the Republican National Committee's winter meeting on Thursday just as President Donald Trump labeled them "haters" and criticized coverage of his State of the Union address.

"Did anybody not see the State of the Union? 'Cause even the haters back there gave us a good review," the president said at the meeting, which was held at Trump International Hotel in Washington D.C.

"They came up with fake polls, but the fake polls were even good. They said what are we going to do? Took them a couple of hours to figure before they went and got calls from the bosses saying 'you can't say that about Trump, you can't say good,'" he continued.

As Trump bashed the media — about 5 minutes into his speech — those covering the event were escorted out and a live feed was dropped.

The president has had a rocky relationship with the media since his 2016 campaign and has become more strained since becoming president.

A combined 62 percent of viewers who watched Trump's Tuesday address called his performance “excellent” or “good,” according to a POLITICO/Morning Consult poll released Thursday. Seventeen percent said Trump did only a fair job and 20 percent called his speech "poor."

Trump also said Democratic lawmakers were "missing in action" and have not been cooperating on coming up with an immigration deal.

Lawmakers on both sides of their aisle, and even a divide within the Republican party, have been split on coming up with a deal for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, which expires March 5.

"You know, the Democrats are AWOL, they're missing in action. We're saying 'where are they?' We have a proposal, we never here from them because I don't think they want to solve the DACA problem," Trump said.

The president said all Democrats want to do is "obstruct."

"You know the name is resist, that's the name of their movement. Resist, that's all they do is resist. I don't know if they're good at it," he said. "They can't be too good at it because we're passing a lot of things. I wouldn't say their resistance is extremely successful."
