Omarosa to leave the White House
By MATTHEW NUSSBAUM
Omarosa Manigault Newman, the former "Apprentice" star turned aide to President Donald Trump, is resigning from her post as director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison.
The White House said Wednesday that she would leave on Jan. 20, the anniversary of Trump's inauguration.
"Omarosa Manigault Newman resigned yesterday to pursue other opportunities," the White House said in a statement. "We wish her the best in future endeavors and are grateful for her service."
Manigault – who was widely known simply as "Omarosa" – is the second staffer to announce a departure early next year, after deputy national security adviser Dina Powell said last week she plans to return home to New York.
Manigault was a vocal advocate for Trump during the 2016 campaign, and was the highest-profile African-American adviser to land a spot in Trump's White House.
Her brief tenure was marred by controversy, including a flare-up after she brought her 39-person wedding party to the White House for an impromptu photo shoot earlier this year.
