Trump: GOP and Dems ‘will eventually come together’ on new health care plan

President Donald Trump said Tuesday morning that Republicans and Democrats “will eventually come together” to create a new health care plan as a result of the recently passed tax reform bill.

“Based on the fact that the very unfair and unpopular Individual Mandate has been terminated as part of our Tax Cut Bill, which essentially Repeals (over time) ObamaCare, the Democrats & Republicans will eventually come together and develop a great new HealthCare plan!” the president wrote on Twitter.

Trump promised he would repeal the Affordable Care Act in his first year to no avail. Over the summer, Congress failed to repeal Obamacare several times. But the tax reform bill, which Trump signed last week before heading to Florida, includes a repeal of Obamacare’s requirement that people have health insurance or face a fine.

The White House said last week that Trump wants Congress to pass two bipartisan bills regarding Obamacare in the next month: a bill from Sens. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) and Patty Murray (D-Wash.) that would fund a key Obamacare insurance subsidy program and a bill from Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) that would provide reinsurance funding to help insurers cover high-risk enrollees.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, however, said last week that the Senate will probably move past Obamacare in the new year.
