Trump on Mueller probe: I'm 'not angry at anybody'
By LOUIS NELSON
President Donald Trump told the New York Times on Wednesday that “I’m actually not angry at anybody” in relation to the ongoing Russia investigation, disputing a widely reported characterization that he has grown increasingly frustrated with the probe.
“I’m not under investigation, as you know,” Trump told a Times reporter in a phone call. “And even if you look at that, there’s not even a mention of Trump in there.”
The investigation, led by special prosecutor Robert Mueller, released its first indictments this week, charging former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and Rick Gates, another campaign adviser, over money laundering and other alleged crimes related to their ties to pro-Russian politicians in Ukraine.
The charges released Monday have “nothing to do with us,” the president said.
Another revelation from Mueller’s team released on Monday was the guilty plea from former Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos, who admitted early last month to lying to the FBI about his efforts to connect Trump’s team with Russia-linked contacts offering “dirt” on Democrat Hillary Clinton.
Papadopoulos’ disclosure offers a second instance in which a Trump campaign official sough incriminating information on Clinton from Russian sources. The former Trump adviser is cooperating with Mueller’s team.
Still, Trump, who has labeled the Mueller investigation a “witch hunt,” insisted he is not unhappy in his job and that the ongoing probe has not affected him.
“I’m in the office early and leave late; it’s very smooth,” Trump said. “Honestly… I’m really enjoying it.”
