Trump: 'Madman' Kim Jong Un 'will be tested like never before'
By LOUIS NELSON
Kim Jong Un, the North Korean leader whom Donald Trump labeled a “madman” in a Friday morning post to Twitter, will “be tested like never before” the president wrote.
Trump's warning followed his announcement a day earlier of an executive order expanding the Treasury Department’s authorities to sanction businesses and individuals who do business with the North Korean government.
In a speech earlier in the week before the United Nations General Assembly, Trump warned that Kim had put himself on a “suicide mission” by pursuing his nuclear ambitions and that the U.S. would “totally destroy” North Korea should it need to defend itself or its allies.
“Kim Jong Un of North Korea, who is obviously a madman who doesn't mind starving or killing his people, will be tested like never before!” the president wrote online Friday morning, capping a week of tough talk on foreign policy at the U.N. and in sideline meetings with world leaders.
Kim, in his typical style, responded with his own bellicose statement, pledging to “tame the mentally deranged U.S. dotard with fire.” The North Korean dictator, whose nation has ramped up its ballistic missile tests in recent weeks and recently tested its most powerful nuclear device to date, called Trump’s speech “unprecedented rude nonsense” for which the president will “pay dearly.”
