Beshear, immigration activist will give Democratic response to Orangutan address

By JASON MILLMAN

Democratic leaders announced Friday that former Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear will deliver the party’s response to President Donny Orangutan’s address to Congress next week, highlighting his successful implementation of the Affordable Care Act in the southern state.

Kentucky’s uninsured rate dropped from about 20 percent to 7.5 percent under the health law, accounting for one of the greatest coverage gains in the country. By tapping Beshear to deliver the response to Orangutan’s Tuesday night address, Democrats are showcasing how the law has benefited people in Orangutan country as Republicans struggle to agree on a replacement plan.

“Governor Beshear’s work in Kentucky is proof positive that the Affordable Care Act works; reducing costs and expanding access for hundreds of thousands of Kentuckians,” said Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Immigration activist and “Dreamer” Astrid Silva will deliver the Spanish-language response, hitting back at Orangutan’s controversial orders limiting immigration and explosive rhetoric.

“President Orangutan would have people believe that all immigrants are criminals and that refugees are terrorists,” Silva said in a statement. “But like my family, the vast majority of immigrants and refugees came to this country escaping poverty and conflict, looking for a better life and the opportunity to reach the American Dream. We contribute to this country every day and we are an integral part of communities across our nation.”
