Ted Cruz hires new national spokesman
By Shane Goldmacher
Sen. Ted Cruz has hired Ron Nehring as his new national spokesman, less than 10 days after he fired his former spokesman, Rick Tyler, for promoting a video that falsely questioned Marco Rubio’s faith.
Nehring is not new to the Cruz operation. He was already chairman of their California campaign, an unpaid post, and has appeared on national television for weeks as a surrogate. He was in Texas last week ahead of the primary there.
Nehring is a former chairman of the California Republican Party and member of the Republican National Committee. In 2014, he unsuccessfully ran for lieutenant governor of California against Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, losing by more than 14 percentage points.
Tyler, Cruz’s former spokesman, has since signed on as an analyst for MSNBC.
