Trump attack

Kasich super PAC rolls out first Trump attack ad

By Daniel Strauss

The super PAC supporting Ohio Gov. John Kasich's presidential bid released its first attack ad Monday against Donald Trump.

The 47-second web ad is the first spot from the New Day for America super PAC in its planned $2.5 million campaign to knock Trump from his perch atop Republican primary polls.

The ad, which splices together clips of awkward and controversial Trump comments, includes Trump's remark that Arizona Sen. John McCain isn't a war hero, followed by Trump joking that "if Ivanka weren't my daughter perhaps I would be dating her." Next comes audio of Trump saying, "I have a great relationship with the blacks. I've always had a great relationship with the blacks."

Designed to raise questions about Trump's judgment and readiness for office, the ad text reads "Commander-in-chief?" before a clip of Trump saying he doesn't have "respect" for Fox News' Megyn Kelly as a journalist after Kelly moderated a Republican presidential debate.

"You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever," Trump said in the clip from an interview with CNN's Don Lemon.

The ad closes out with the billionaire businessman asking during a campaign event in Iowa, "how stupid are the people of Iowa?"

The ad's release coincides with a Trump campaign rally scheduled for Monday evening in Kasich's home state of Ohio. Kasich and New Day for America have been gearing up to attack Trump ahead of his appearance, with the governor's campaign scheduling a morning conference call featuring surrogates criticizing Trump ahead of the campaign appearance.

Kasich himself will be out of state Monday campaigning in neighboring Michigan.
