New Years day started foggy and cool, so what should I do?
Go to the beach of course…

After lunch
I got a late start, had things to do first as always but hit
the road west by noon. The drive out isn’t too bad, about one hour or so. Of
course I was a little hungry when arrived to the sand so I stopped at a place
on one of the beaches, Mo’s. Mo’s has been around for a while and isn’t too
bad, a little touristy but the food is OK. Once I finished my bowl of chowder I
walked out to the beach to stretch my legs.

View of Manzanita Beach
I drove down a little farther to Oswald state park beach and
walked along the shore. The tide was way out and I walked out on the wet flat
sand. The sun was peaking out behind some clouds and the colors were dramatic.
The beach is a popular surfing spot and the waves were OK for that time of
year, the tide helped so did not having any wind. After walking a bit I headed
back to the car and drove south a little more. I stopped on the lookout over
Manzanita Beach, a very nice view south over the
water. I didn’t see any whales, thought they are migrating now.

Leaving Oswald State Beach
I finished the drive down to Manzanita and headed for the
beach after driving through the small downtown area. Again the beach was nice,
people playing with dogs and flying kites. The sun was setting and the colors
made the water and sand look like they were on fire. This was a great ending to
a great holiday season. After stopping for a coffee, the drive home was quiet
and relaxed. It seemed later than it was thanks to the dark sky, but I had a
great day enjoying the sand and seeing the water and waves.
