What if Joseph McCarthy had power overt he media in the 1050's like the Orange turd does today?

It is scary to think what America could be now if back then a Senator was able to force the media to bend to his wishes. Would America be better for learning this lesson then or would America of today be better or worse? We see what the Dummy Donny is doing, forcing media to spew his lies and not to question his craziness. Would the media be more forceful and call bullshit, say shove it turd, or would be just do what they are doing now, roll over and play dead?
