Biden heralds January jobs report
From CNN's Betsy Klein
President Joe Biden heralded Friday’s January jobs numbers as “proof” that “America’s economy is the strongest in the world” as the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the US economy added 353,000 jobs in January, nearly doubling economists’ expectations.
“America’s economy is the strongest in the world. Today, we saw more proof, with another month of strong wage gains and employment gains of over 350,000 in January, continuing the strong growth from last year,” Biden said in a statement.
The unemployment rate remained at 3.7%, and Biden noted that it has “been under 4% for two full years now.”
But a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS reflects that Biden still isn’t getting credit for economic gains on his watch. 55% of Americans say they feel Biden’s policies have worsened economic conditions.
“It’s great news for working families that wages, wealth, and jobs are higher now than before the pandemic, and I won’t stop fighting to lower costs and build an economy from the middle out and bottom up,” Biden said in the statement.
