New report reveals infighting at Truth Social's parent company

A Washington Post story from over the weekend detailed several instances of turmoil and infighting within Trump Media & Technology Group, the company behind Truth Social, including one occasion in which Donald Trump reportedly pressured an executive to gift several of his company shares to Melania Trump, Trump's wife.

It's the latest development in a series of troubling reports from inside the nascent company, headed by former California Rep. Devin Nunes. The Post obtained a copy of a whistleblower complaint filed with the SEC against the company in August by company executive Will Wilkerson, and in its report said the documents attached to the complaint reveal "a stunning portrait of the animosity that has built up inside the company" since its debut last year.

Wilkerson, who spoke to the Post for its Saturday piece, told the reporter about one instance in October 2021 in which Trump called another executive, Andy Litinsky, and urged him to give some of his shares to Melania Trump following a merger deal that was expected to substantially boost the value of the company's stock. According to Wilkerson, Litinsky told Trump that such a gift would result in an expensive tax bill that Litinsky could not afford to pay; Trump apparently brushed off Litinsky's concern and said, "Do whatever you need to do."

Five months later, Litinsky — a former contestant on "The Apprentice" who first pitched the idea of Truth Social to Trump — was removed from the company's board of directors. The Post report said both Litinsky and Wilkerson believe the move was made in retaliation for Litinsky's refusal to give Melania a portion of his shares, which the Post said would be worth "a small fortune."

"President Trump over the past 2 months has repeatedly demanded that I give my TMTG equity to Melania Trump," Litinsky wrote in an email that was published by the Post. "As I have informed him several times, I have earned that equity, and also 'gifting' equity to Melania Trump would be a taxable event of which I can't afford to pay the taxes. Trump has said multiple times ... that he will 'blow up the company' if his demands are not met."

The Post said that Wilkerson, who was serving as senior vice president of operations, was fired last week after speaking with the outlet.

The explosive Post article comes just shy of two months after a Fox Business report said that Truth Social, the company's flagship product, was experiencing serious financial trouble. According to that report, the social media platform — at the time — owed $1.6 million in missed monthly payments to its web-hosting service.
