Files police report

Elder's former fiancée files police report alleging domestic abuse

By CARLA MARINUCCI

Alexandra Datig, the former fiancée and longtime radio producer for talk show host Larry Elder, said she has filed a formal police report with the Los Angeles Police Department alleging that she was subject to “several incidents of domestic abuse” while living with the GOP gubernatorial recall candidate.

Datig said she delivered the statement to LAPD Wednesday, where she said she was interviewed for two hours by detectives in the robbery and homicide division.

POLITICO first reported last week that Datig said she broke off an 18-month engagement with Elder after he pulled a loaded gun from a nightstand during an argument in 2015.

She said that out of fear and intimidation, she didn't file a police report at the time, but that she decided to make a formal report after hearing some of Elder’s public statements denying the gun incident and suggesting she fabricated the account. His denials, she told police, have resulted in her receiving hostile threats on social media.

“It’s time to draw the line," Dating said in an interview Wednesday. “I am not the one who has to come clean about my life. He is."

Elder’s campaign did not respond immediately to requests for comment.

Lt. Ben Fernandes said the department would not confirm or deny it was investigating the allegations.

Datig provided POLITICO with a copy of the lengthy statement she said she gave to police, which alleges a series of humiliating incidents and abusive behavior. The former producer provided details of new incidents in her statement, including what she described as pressure from the talk show host to have an “open relationship" and “unwanted sexual activity," which she said she rejected.

Her report to police also describes Elder’s alleged wielding of a loaded gun against her in detail.

“He was angry and exhibited hostility towards me in the form of silent scorn during our conversation," Datig said in her statement. “He proceeded to open the drawer and reached inside for his .45 caliber revolver. Making sure the firearm was in my view, he opened the cylindrical, rotating part of the revolver checking to make sure the gun was loaded with cartridges. He proceeded to close the cylinder, again, making sure the firearm was in my view and then proceeded to put the firearm back in the drawer."

She also alleged Elder pushed her in the hallway by the upstairs bedroom, saying, “I don’t want you," and that Elder's behavior "constantly made me feel threatened."
