Tim Scott says there's a 'very small' chance that an infrastructure bill will pass
By REBECCA MORIN
Republican Sen. Tim Scott declared Thursday that it's very unlikely Congress will pass an infrastructure bill this session.
"The chance of us getting something done in a big way on infrastructure is very small," Scott said during POLITICO's Future of Prosperity event.
Both Republicans and Democrats have introduced plans for a $1 trillion investment in infrastructure during President Donald Trump's tenure, with Trump himself saying infrastructure is a top priority for his administration.
However, the two parties have so far failed to find common ground on any specific bill.
During his interview Scott said Republicans and Democrats want to approach funding for infrastructure differently. The South Carolina senator claimed that his party wants more funding from state and local governments, while Democrats want the federal government to largely foot the bill for infrastructure improvements.
"We have a problem finding a common definition on progress," Scott said.
