Ridiculous partisan investigations?

Trump attacks ‘ridiculous partisan investigations’

By REBECCA MORIN

President Donald Trump on Tuesday denounced "ridiculous partisan" investigations during his State of the Union address, adding that there cannot be peace as long as there is "war and investigation."

"An economic miracle is taking place in the United States and the only things that can stop it are foolish wars, politics, or ridiculous partisan investigations," the president said.

Trump did not specify which investigations he was referring to, but he has often attacked special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into possible collusion between Russians and his 2016 campaign as a "witch hunt."

But even as Mueller's investigation shows signs of reaching its conclusion, Trump is facing an explosion of probes from newly empowered House Democrats and federal prosecutors examining other aspects of Trump's business and political activities.

Trump said if Americans are going to "defeat our adversaries abroad," the U.S. "must be united at home."

"If there is going to be peace and legislation, there cannot be war and investigation," he said. "It just doesn't work that way."
