Greeted by boos

Trump greeted by mix of cheers and boos at NCAA title game

By BRENT D. GRIFFITHS

President Donald Trump walked onto the field of the NCAA College Football Playoff championship Monday night, greeted by a smattering of applause and boos before he stood with ROTC members for the national anthem.

Flanked by ROTC members from the Universities of Alabama and Georgia, the two schools playing in the game, Trump walked out onto the field in Atlanta and remained standing for the national anthem. Footage of his brief appearance shows the commander in chief singing along to the national anthem.

Trump attended Monday's contest, which is the final game of the College Football Playoff with the winner the national champion.

The president has had a complicated relationship with sports. Last year, he chastised NFL professional players for refusing to stand during the national anthem as a form a protest against police brutality and racial injustice.

Trump also publicly argued with NBA superstar Steph Curry over whether the NBA champion and all-star was invited to the White House.
