Trump hits back at Corker, says Tennessee 'not happy' with him

President Donald Trump hit back at Sen. Bob Corker’s criticism of him last week, writing on Twitter on Friday morning that it was “strange comment” and that Corker’s Tennessee constituents are unhappy with their senator.

“Strange statement by Bob Corker considering that he is constantly asking me whether or not he should run again in '18. Tennessee not happy!” Trump wrote

Talking to reporters last week in Tennessee, Corker said that “the President has not yet been able to demonstrate the stability nor some of the competence that he needs to demonstrate in order to be successful” and that Trump “has not demonstrated that he understands what has made this nation great and what it is today, and he's got to demonstrate the characteristics of a president who understands that.”

Corker, whose comments came in response to the president’s widely-panned reaction to a deadly white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, also said that “radical changes” are necessary to get the White House back on track.

Asked about those comments at her Thursday press briefing, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said, “I think that's a ridiculous and outrageous claim and doesn't dignify a response from this podium.”

Corker is the latest Republican senator with whom Trump has publicly feuded. In recent weeks, the president has targeted Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) as well as John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) over frustration with the Senate’s inability to pass legislation to repeal and replace Obamacare, criticism of Trump's Charlottesville response and overall criticism of his administration thus far.

Corker's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Friday.
