It is very hard to find good tacos in Portland Oregon. Portland is known for Beer, Beer, Beer and tattoos... Well I found a place (others have found it first) on the east side of Portland on Hawthorn Street. It is Por Que No. It looks like a regular taco shop, though the ones in SoCal are not so 'touristy'. Most taco shops are pretty basic, plastic tables with a few pictures of Montezuma.
Well this place is not quite like those places but it is a pretty good place. The tacos are expensive for what you get. I got a fish and a squid and a carnitas taco (the carnitas were salty though) The salsa is a little tomato sauce like, not much punch, but it is a good place considering. With a beer or two, a plat of $3.50 (each) tacos and chips (pay for them), grab a seat at the big window and enjoy the tacos. They are good, lots of different fillings, but small like Tijuana street tacos. A Tijuana street tacos cost .25 cents to .50 cents each...
Well I enjoyed the expensive tacos and the area is interesting.
They do have different sauces that you can add, pumps it up a bit. The fish taco was good, but not a lot of fish. The squid was OK and had a good taste, the pork was salty. Yes that was what I tasted first, salt. I wouldn't get that again, though the others are good. They server mostly tacos but they have other items.
It is fun, but the place is usually very crowded on the weekend or in the evenings. Go and enjoy, they take credit cards..
