Summer berries

It is the height of summer and berries are in the market. I didn’t get these for a store, but I picked them at a berry farm outside of town. They give you a pale and send you out into the field of bushes, the berries are everywhere and the best way to pick them is to simply run your fingers over the bunches. The ripe berries will come right off and the green ones will stay. The farm has a minimum of five pound you must pick, but the cost is just $2 a pound. So you will spend $10 minimum, but compared to store prices, this is a great bargain. I was at a farmers market in town and they were selling the same berries for $3 a basket, this works out to about $9 a pound. Of course five pounds of berries is a lot, so I freeze them in bags of about one pound each. I will keep them and eat them in the winter when berries are expensive and the weather is cold.
