Russian President Vladimir Putin is meeting with US President Donald Trump’s foreign envoy Steve Witkoff in St. Petersburg.
A possible Putin-Trump meeting may be on the agenda, state news agency RIA Novosti cited Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov as saying.
He added that Putin and Witkoff will discuss Ukraine, with Peskov calling it “a good opportunity” to convey the Russian position to Trump.
Witkoff met earlier with Russian negotiator Kirill Dmitriev in St. Petersburg.
Witkoff’s plane landed in St. Petersburg this morning, according to Russian state news agencies, citing data from the FlightRadar 24 tracking website.
Separately, when asked about rare earth metals talks between the US and Ukraine, Peskov said:
“The situation is developing rapidly now. Therefore, it is important to monitor all the news, analyze the information, and try to understand the consequences for events that directly concern us.”
Remember: Witkoff was last in Russia on March 13, when he met with senior Russian officials and later with Putin in Moscow. He provided additional information on Ukraine, while Putin passed a message to Trump through Witkoff, the Kremlin said at the time.
This post has been updated with additional information about Witkoff meeting with Putin.
