Fake 'private property' signs spring up on wealthy Calif. city's beach
It's the latest example of years of attempts by Malibu homeowners to keep visitors off public beaches

Homeowners on a stretch of a small and secluded Malibu beach appear to have placed “private property” signs on the sand, in yet another attempt to keep visitors away from the public beaches that line the wealthy community.
A series of videos posted to TikTok on Monday shows sandwich board signs placed on the sand at a Malibu beach. The signs read: “PRIVATE PROPERTY” and “THIS BEACH AREA IS ON PRIVATE LOTS. TRESPASSERS WILL BE PROSECUTED.”
“One big ass lie. Private? This ain’t private, bro; this is the sand. This is free land. Anybody can be here,” says TikTok user @shadymainstreammedialiar in one of the videos, while speaking to a man who said the beach wasn’t public property.
“It’s a scam, a Karen scam,” the voice continues later in the video.
