Driver who died was part of car break-in crew, SF police union says

The driver killed in a police pursuit was part of a crew breaking into cars near the Palace of Fine Arts, the San Francisco Police Officers Association claims.
One person was killed and another injured when their vehicle crashed while fleeing law enforcement, San Francisco police said Saturday. The vehicle, which was wanted in connection with an armed robbery and auto burglaries, was spotted about 4 p.m. by officers assigned to the Tenderloin Station, police said. The driver allegedly fled before officers could stop it, and they gave chase.
The pursuit ended when the car struck an object at San Bruno Avenue and Mansell Street near the Paul Avenue offramp of U.S. Highway 101, police said. Officers removed the occupants from the vehicle, and one person was declared dead and the other was taken to a local hospital. The collision is being investigated by California Highway Patrol.
"Tragic end for car bippin' crew," the San Francisco police union posted on social media with an accompanying photo of the crash. "One dead, one critically injured. 2-person car burglary team spent day breaking into cars @ Palace of Fine Arts."
